Ivy Rowen, 51, and Kim Delson, 44, of Monroe, N.Y., population 31,000, located 105 miles south of Albany, considered marrying last summer in Provincetown, MA.

The two women, in a decade-long relationship, hesitated for one reason only --- if same- sex marriage were to be permitted in New York, they would prefer to tie the knot in their home state.

Rowen and Delson are eager to marry --- they are the parents of Jenna, 4, and Zachary, 2. They closely monitored the news from Albany in Novermber, 2009, as the State Assembly voted down New York’s Same-Sex Marriage Bill.

“We feel that our family should be entitled to the same rights as any other,” says Delson, “our kids should be able to say that their parents are married. We don’t want them to think that our family is different from any other.”
